PopeMobile- Pope Francis I Official Car




Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche presented Pope Francis I with a modified Mercedes-Benz M Class. It was specially built for the pontiff and is expected to be his official car.

The Popemobile is part of a long line of Mercedes-Benz cars used over the last 80 years by the Catholic Church leaders. It  will 1st go into action later this month when he makes an official visit to Brazil.

Whilst the popemobile is capable of achieving speeds of up to 160mph, in normal operation, it travels at only 6mph. At 2011 prices, the popemobile cost approximately £345,000. The vehicle's security features include bulletproof plexiglass windows and roof, able to withstand explosions and reinforced, armoured side panels and undercarriage designed to resist bomb blasts.
